RSVP’s Bride of the Week, Mary T Allen recalls special highlights from her beautiful wedding to Groom, Genie Griffin…..
THE DATE
September 23rd 2016
THE LOCATION
St. Mary’s Church, Innishannon
THE DRESS
As I work a lot with brides in my business Powder & Plait, when it came to my time to go dress shopping, I felt I had seen every dress I tried on before. It was like, “This is the dress of my bride two weeks ago..” Besides that, my own style is individual and I really wanted to keep my own personality in what I wear. After time, I knew the only way forward was to get the dress made. So with a lot of research, I put together a design which I knew was very much me, and brought it to the amazing Ernest Perryman Dress Designer in Cork, who was excited to make the dress with a twist!
The top was a Bardot style fine corded french lace, with a Duchess satin silk skirt. I guess the pièce de résistance were the trousers, which yes will be totally worn again!
HAIR & MAKE UP
Makeup: After much debate about whether I’d do my own, I decided it would be fun to be on the other side of the brushes. Jen Keating was my girl and did an amazing job!
Hair: The amazingly talented Laura of Hair Play did the bridal hair. I work a lot with Laura and I am happy to call her a good friend – We were all so happy!
PHOTOGRAPHER
THE VENUE
Fernhill House & Gardens, Clonakilty
SPECIAL HIGHLIGHTS
Without sounding too cheesy, seeing each other at the alter was a massive highlight for us both – not just because Genie didn’t know what style dress I’d be wearing, but because I had no idea what he was going to be wearing either! We greeted each other like Me:“you’re not wearing a tie or a dickie bow”… Genie: “You’re wearing TROUSERS.” Great moment!
Genie’s 6 minute speech ended being 35 minutes long with the confidence that Mr. Jack Daniels gave him, which was also brilliant.
The Silent Disco was a massive success for all ages. There was one point I was giving it my all with a bit of AC/DC in my ears, but looking around I noticed others were practically slow dancing, as they had the other station on with a bit of Backstreet Boys. What a mix and laugh!
THE HONEYMOON
We did a mini moon to Playa Blanca for a week, but the big honeymoon will be this January when we will be travelling for a full month to Dubai, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia!
