Bride of the Week Anita O’Dwyer recalls special highlights from her stunning wedding to Groom, Derrick Lynch……
THE DATE
17.12.16
THE LOCATION
The Oriel House Hotel, Ballincollig, Co. Cork
THE DRESS
My mum [Collette Desmond] made it. It was inspired by some beautiful elements that I liked in a number of wedding dresses I had seen. It was an ivory flowing chiffon grecian style gown, embellished with sari crystal trim.
HAIR & MAKE UP
Makeup:
Hair:
By Stephanie and team at Honey Browns in Ballincollig
THE PHOTOGRAPHER
Jonathan Howlett, the most talented up and coming photographer with an amazing vision. He really captured the romance of the day as well as the enormous fun had by all.
THE VENUE
Oriel House Hotel, Ballincollig. We chose to keep our reception room a surprise until 9am. A big reveal was arranged with many entertaining zones around the room, including a photo op area and a cake/dessert zone. The room was decorated with candelabras embellished with crystallized berries and lights, all hand made by Tracy, Carol & Deirdre. The dessert zone included my massive 8 tier suspended wedding cake inspired by our first kiss in Farran Woods, a Cake Buffet including 7 different cake flavours and a Chocolate Bar which served everything you could imagine in chocolate!
SPECIAL HIGHLIGHTS
1 – My 11yr old daughter played me up the aisle by tin whistle, playing Innis Sheer
2 – Walking up the aisle and catching Kevins hand!
3 – Tracys son Dylan [18yrs] was the best man and this was a very proud moment for me.
4 – A balloon release in remembrance of Kevins Mum & Dad, Catherine & Richard
5- The surprise video montage of congratulations by my sisters Carol and Deirdre, which included so many Irish celebrities wishing us well; Amy Huberman, Daniel O’Donnell, Neil Prendeville, Lisa Cannon, Jennifer Maguire & Bernard Shaw, Nathan Carter, Jack L, Ryan Sheridan, Neven Maguire, Rob Heffernan, Norma Sheahan
6- The father daughter dance turned into a ‘Rock off.’ My dad Paul is the biggest ACDC fan. All the male guests rolled up their trouser legs and tied their ties around their heads, to the sound of ‘Thunderstruck’
7- Darren Sheahan [aka Dashka] played saxophone dueting with our DJ Anthony Fleming
8- The Cork Samba band played drums at the party, giving the event a fantastic carnival atmosphere
Finally, is there anything else you’d like to add?
Mostly, such an enormous thank you to my family. Our wedding day wouldn’t have been as spectacular as it was only for my sisters Carol & Deirdre and my mum and dad Paul & Collette Desmond
