While there may not be a ‘typical’ wedding, with everyone choosing to celebrate their big day differently, here’s is what the average Irish wedding looks like according to the CSO.
According to the 2016 Census, the average age that people are getting married has increased.
The average male gets married at 36 years of age, while the average woman gets married at 34 years of age. However, in same sex marriages the age is even higher, with males getting married at around 40, and females getting married at around 41.
The most popular months for weddings was revealed to be July and August, with 3,090 weddings happening in July and 2,789 weddings in August.
The least popular months were January with only 711 weddings, and February with 835 weddings.
Friday and Saturday were also the most popular days for weddings, with 67.9% of weddings taking place on either day, while the least popular day was Sunday, with only 534 weddings taking place.

There were over 1,000 same-sex marriages in 2016, in comparison to over 21,500 opposite sex marriages. In total there were 22,633 marriages in the year.
So it looks like the average wedding in Ireland is between a man aged 36 years of age and woman aged 34, in July, on a Friday.
