7 Things Every Bridesmaid Should Know

Lets just put it out there, being a bridesmaid isn’t always the fabulous and glamourous role that it’s always made out to be. More often than not it can be one of the most stressful times of your life.

Bridesmaids

You’re trying to please your bride, all the while trying not to crack up, pretending to like that hideous dress that she has picked out for you and trying to tolerate her obnoxious other friends that are joining you on this wedding journey.

So here are seven vital tips that you should know before taking on this wonderful yet worrying task.

1. If you feel like you can’t handle it, it’s OK to say “no” to being a bridesmaid. Just do it ASAP, and do not wait ‘til the last minute.

Don’t leave it until she’s walking up the aisle to bail on your bridesmaid duties. If you feel that you can’t handle the stress of it all, or if you’re just not able for the limelight of it all, let your bride know that you love her and that you would normally do anything for her, but just not this. She’ll understand, and this will save a lot of unnecessary conflict and bickering in the long run.

2.  If at any point you’re unsure what the bride expects of you, ask and clarify. It’ll save you lots of unneeded stress.

If you don’t know exactly what she wants, just ask. If she rolls off forty different flower types and you didn’t catch them all, ask her to repeat them until you’ve got every single one. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

3. Even if you hate the dress, suck it up and wear the dress.

This day isn’t about you, it’s about your best friend so get over the fact that you might look like a hippo because this day is all about the fabulous bride, and as much as you might think it, people won’t be looking at you.

4. Help the bride out by creating some downtime outside of planning. Take her to a movie, out for drinks — something non-wedding-related.

Keep reminding her that there’s more to her life than this wedding, and if she’s getting overly stressed about it, crack open a bottle of wine, take her out to a comedy show and help her forget all of those bridal responsibilities she has.

5. Get to know the bride’s future spouse before the big day.

If you don’t already know the groom all that well, try and get to know him a bit more because you’ll be spending a hell of a lot of time with him in the very near future. Take him out for a cup of coffee to discuss the big day or have a dinner and ask all of the wedding party. This will help the bond come together and it will make their special day go a lot smoother if everybody is getting along.

6. Wear waterproof makeup

ESPECIALLY if it’s going to be hot outside or if you get emotional at weddings. It’ll save lots of time cleaning up your look. Nobody wants to have mascara streaming down their face in the wedding pictures like.

7. If all else fails, just be there for the bride. No one bridesmaid can do everything!

Just be there, and be a good friend.
