We love a good wedding here in RSVP and style icon and modelling legend, Celia Holman Lee has recalled her special day back in the 1970’s.
My wedding took place on March 25th, 43 years ago at 11am. The ceremony was at St. John’s Cratloe Church and that was before all the celebrities started getting married there! I wore a lacy dress, which was of its time and a beautiful head dress by Pauline’s Hats on Henry Street in Limerick, who I used to model for at the time. She was a legend and people would travel to her for hats from all over the country. Henry VIII was very big at the time and the style was very Anne Boleyn.
I had two bridesmaids, Annette and Josephine, and we had about 100 guests at the reception at Bunratty Castle. My ‘going away’ outfit was a khaki blazer with big lapels – very 60s! Calico fabric was very big at the time and I wore a lovely button-through dress that, if I wore it now, would still be bang on trend!
We spent two weeks in Spain on honeymoon. It was March, and Francisco Franco, a staunch Catholic, was Head of State so Easter celebrations were in full swing when we landed in Spain and there were nothing but processions and statues everywhere! There was no charter at that time so we got a taxi to Torremolinos, the next port and spent two blissful weeks there.
